What is NFT Hydroponics?
NFT stands for Nutrient Film Technique. In this system, a thin film of nutrient-rich water continuously flows over the roots of plants suspended in channels or tubes. The roots absorb necessary nutrients while being exposed to ample oxygen from the air. This method delivers nutrients directly to plant roots with minimal waste and uses up to 90% less water than traditional soil farming.

Key Components of an NFT System
Building your own NFT hydroponic system requires several key components: NFT growing channels made of PVC, a submersible water pump to circulate the nutrient solution, an air pump and air stone for reservoir oxygenation, clay pebbles or Rockwool as growing medium, and a pH and EC meter to monitor water quality. Our third-generation NFT channels feature a proprietary patent design that ensures more uniform water distribution and better root support.

Step-by-Step Installation
First, plan your layout. NFT channels should be installed at a 1:30 to 1:40 gradient slope. Second, install the reservoir beneath the channels. Fill with water, add hydroponic nutrients, and adjust pH to 5.5-6.5. Third, mount NFT channels on a sturdy frame. Connect the water pump using food-grade tubing. Fourth, place net pots with seedlings into channel slots. Finally, power on the system and monitor pH and EC levels daily.

Best Plants and Common Mistakes
NFT systems are ideal for lettuce, spinach, basil, mint, and cilantro — crops that reach harvest in 3 to 6 weeks. Avoid letting channels dry out, maintain proper nutrient concentration, and ensure correct channel slope. Our NFT channels are manufactured with over 25 years of experience and trusted by growers in more than 50 countries worldwide.
